GE Union Members Vote ‘Yes’ on New Four-Year Contracts

The members of GE’s two largest unions have voted to approve new four-year national labor contracts with GE. Union officials informed GE that voting by members of IUE-CWA and the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America (UE) was completed Wednesday, and that the national agreements have been ratified.

GE Vice President John Loomis said, "Union employees have shown their support for a contract that continues to provide them with excellent pay and benefits while keeping the Company competitive. This ‘yes’ vote is good for GE and the unions."

Union leaders and GE reached tentative agreements on the labor contracts on June 19, after four weeks of intense negotiations. The unions' bargaining committees and Conference Boards then endorsed the contracts, and the contracts were thereafter approved by membership votes in IUE-CWA and UE locals.

The IUE-CWA represents about 7,900 GE employees and its labor agreement covers numerous GE locations including Louisville, Ky. (GE Appliances); Lynn, Mass. (GE Aviation); and Schenectady, N.Y. (GE Energy). The UE represents about 3,100 employees and its labor agreement includes Erie, PA (GE Transportation) and Fort Edward, NY (GE Energy) and others.

Terms of the new contracts have been offered to the UAW, IAM, IBEW and other unions that have local contracts with GE. These unions represent about 4,000 unionized GE employees. Agreements have been reached with most of these units.
