Genesee & Wyoming July Traffic Rises 104.2% - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Genesee & Wyoming Inc.,(GWR) or G&W, an owner and operator of short line and regional freight railroads, Tuesday said traffic in July increased 104.2 percent to 165,072 carloads. On a pro forma basis, the total carloads for July were 151,672, a 8.8 percent increase from the previous year.

The company, for comparative purposes, provided supplemental 2012 carload information on a pro forma basis as though the RailAmerica Inc or RA railroads were owned by G&W on January 1, 2012.

Metals traffic increased 3,910 carloads primarily in G&W's Ohio Valley, Northeast and Southern regions due to increased shipment volumes and partially due to a maintenance outage at a steel mill in the Southern region that negatively affected shipment volumes last July. Agricultural products traffic increased 2,214 carloads, metallic ores traffic increased 1,857 carloads, and minerals and stone traffic increased 1,613 carloads. All remaining traffic increased by a net 3,806 carloads, G&W said in a statement.
