Google Fiber To Buy High-speed Internet Provider Webpass
(RTTNews) - Google Fiber, the high speed internet access business owned by Alphabet, has agreed to acquire San Francisco- based gigabit Internet Service Provider Webpass. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition, which is scheduled to close this summer, is expected to create superfast, abundant Internet connectivity in the U.S. to meet the urban expansion.
Webpass, which is available in five major cities, specializes in providing high speed internet service in urban areas like apartment buildings with multiple units.
Unlike competitors, Webpass owns and operates its Ethernet network, eliminating dependence on phone and cable companies. It has more than 20,000 customers across 5 major markets in the U.S, in San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, Chicago, Boston, and Miami.
Back in February, Google Fiber had announced San Francisco as its next target city, and that it would not be building out its own network, instead rely on existing fiber networks.
