Governor General to Attend the Royal Cremation of the King of Thailand

OTTAWA, Oct. 19, 2017 /CNW/ -  At the request of the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, will travel to Bangkok, Thailand, to attend the Royal Cremation of King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, at the Sanam Luang Plaza, on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at 4:30 p.m.The Royal Cremation follows one year of official mourning since his passing in October 2016.

King Bhumibol reigned for 70 years, making him the longest-reigning monarch in Thailand's history. He is succeeded by his son, King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun.
