Java is the most widely used computer language in the world, while the annual Duke's Choice Award is the highest honor in the Java community. The winning products are chosen by judges from across the worldwide Java community. Jia Ke, CEO at Handseeing Information, said: "As the Oscar of the programming world, this is the first time that the award committee has considered anything outside Europe and America. It is just as if a new category had been added for 'Best Foreign Language Film'."
No game product has won Duke's Choice Award for three years since "Runescape" won the Award in 2009. In its 11 years since inception, the award has only been given to an online game three times, with "Runescape", a game researched and developed by Jagex, being the last award winner. This year, the award went to a game product again. Peter Utzschneider, VP Product Management at Oracle said, "We're surprised and excited by the development of Java technology in China. The first Chinese 'Duke choice item' winner came up with a truly innovative and diversified Java product."
The client and server of "X Fantasy" were both developed using Java technology. The high level performance of the imagery and innovative designing of the battle scenes created a lot of expectations among players prior to release. The English version will also be opened to the public soon.
Handseeing Information established its RIA high-end application laboratory jointly with Sun Microsystems in 2009. The firm has a deep technology base in online games development using Java technology. At the beginning of 2013, Intel Software and Services Group global vice president Sophia Lee Fang Chew visited Handseeing Information in Chengdu to discuss the combination of Handseeing's JGnet online game engine technology and Intel's latest hardware technology.
