HBM Healthcare Investments expects to report a net profit of CHF 19 million for the 2024/2025 financial year

In a market environment that remains difficult for the biotech sector, HBM Healthcare Investments closed the 2024/2025 financial year with a net profit of CHF 19 million as of 31 March. Net asset value per share (NAV) rose by 1.5 percent to CHF 244.41. The share price fell slightly by 2.6 percent.

Some of the relevant healthcare sector indices recorded significant losses during the reporting year. Measured in Swiss francs, the Nasdaq Biotech Index and the S&P Biotech ETF lost 5.2 percent and 16.0 percent, respectively. The broader MSCI World Healthcare Index lost 2.5 percent.

HBM Healthcare Investments' solid performance relative to the market was due in particular to value-enhancing transactions in the private equity portfolio (the acquisitions of two clinical development stage companies Yellow Jersey Threpeutics (by Johnson & Johnson) and Dren Bio (by Sanofi), and the IPO of SAI Life Sciences in India). In addition, the positive performance of the two largest investments in the portfolio, the private company Swixx Biopharma and the listed company Cathay Biotech, contributed to the good result.

Negative currency effects reduced the performance in Swiss francs by around 1.8 percent.

The results presented here are provisional and unaudited based on the current status of the financial statements. The final result will be published with the 2024/2025 Annual Report on 15 May.
