Huanfang Technologies to Provide NMS Communications' Half-Rate Voice
Huanfang Technologies to Provide NMS Communications' Half-Rate Voice Quality Technology, Increasing Capacity for Mobile Operators Serving Crowded China Market Recent Operator Trials Prove Value of Voice Compression Technology; Operators Say It Helps Solve Severe Bandwidth Shortage, Network Interference Issues
Huanfang Technologies, a provider of solutions for next-generation networks in China, will add to its portfolio of product offerings voice quality and echo cancellation systems (VQS) from NMS Communications (NASDAQ: NMSS), the leading provider of technologies and solutions for mobile applications and infrastructure. Huanfang's wireless carrier clients are particularly interested in the NMS products' ability to improve voice quality of GSM networks using Half-Rate vocoders, a voice compression technique increasingly used by GSM operators to boost network capacity. NMS' Studio Sound(R) VQS features dramatically improve the sound of Half-Rate calls, making them sound as good as, or better than, those experienced using more spectrum-intensive--and thus more expensive--Full-Rate channels.
Huanfang led recent operator trials in China to prove that NMS' Studio Sound, NMS' industry-leading suite of voice quality features, can help wireless operators reduce bandwidth costs while maintaining network quality. As part of NMS' Half-Rate solution, Studio Sound enables mobile service operators to offer their customers an optimal listening environment for wireless calls, no matter how great the distractions due to outside noise such as traffic or crowd noise. Operator comments on the Studio Sound-enhanced results were as follows:
"We have seen the level of commitment NMS has had to its voice quality customers in Asia and its resulting high level of brand awareness, so we are pleased to add NMS voice quality products with Studio Sound to our customer base of mobile service providers in China," said Mr. Wei Liejiang, Chairman of Huanfang. "NMS has market-leading voice quality enhancement technology and strong product support at the price our customers want, so we are looking forward to a long and beneficial relationship."
The new offerings from Huanfang include NMS' Mercury(TM) broadband voice quality systems and Sonata(TM) III and Sonata(TM) 100 voice quality systems for narrowband networks, all of which feature Studio Sound. For wireless operators, Studio Sound features such as noise reduction and noise compensation offer additional benefits in the presence of Half-Rate vocoders, which are designed to save expensive spectrum costs for mobile communications. Bandwidth capacity is an issue in both emerging markets, where wireless operators are building new networks with limited resources, and in existing mobile networks, where the pressing limited resource is spectrum capacity, critical in order to sustain subscriber acquisition growth.
"Huanfang Technologies has extensive knowledge of the China mobile service market, and with its existing connections and experience in promoting services to most of the cities in China, the partnership will expand NMS' presence in the fast-growing wireless market in China," said Critz Chan, vice president and general manager, NMS Asia. "Since NMS just recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary of doing business in Asia, we are excited to begin our next ten years with a strategic channel partner as Huanfang working on our behalf in China."
