IMAX Will Show New Warner Bros. Films

(RTTNews) - Imax Corp. (IMAX) will screen up to 12 new films under its multi-picture worldwide agreement with Warner Bros. Pictures. Imax has already had a 13 year partnership with Warner Bros., owned by Time Warner Inc. (TWX).

As part of the deal, Imax will release a number of high-profile tentpoles, including animated and live-action releases.

Imax will screen 2017's Kong: Skull Island and its Godzilla sequel, Blade Runner 2049, Tomb Raider, Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One, The LEGO Batman Movie, Minecraft, the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, as well as the previously announced Justice League, Wonder Woman, and additional DC titles.

The agreement also includes Christopher Nolan's previously announced film, Dunkirk.

"We're proud to re-up our 13 year partnership with the Warner Bros. family. This extension includes titles from some of the industry's most acclaimed filmmakers, such as our friends Christopher Nolan, Steven Spielberg, David Ellison, David Heyman and David Yates," said Greg Foster, CEO of Imax Entertainment and Senior Executive Vice President, Imax Corp.

The Imax release of each film will be digitally re-mastered with proprietary IMAX DMR technology.

As part of efforts to prime fans for the November release of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," Imax and Warner Bros. said in early October that all eight Harry Potter movies will be shown in a weeklong marathon, starting October 13.

"Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them" is a prequel of the Harry Potter film series and is written by J.K. Rowling.

In September, Imax said it signed a new multi-picture agreement with Twentieth Century Fox, a division of 21st Century Fox (FOX).

The deal with Twentieth Century Fox includes Maze Runner: The Death Cure, Predator, Alita: Battle Angel and the studio's untitled Marvel film. All these will be digitally re-mastered into the Imax format and released in Imax theatres worldwide.

As of June 30, 2016, there were 1,102 Imax theatres in 69 countries.
