Biography - Jacques Souquet

An engineer of Supelec, a prestigious French institution, Ph.D. graduate of Stanford University, Jacques Souquet completed his thesis on non-destructive testing which allows the characterization of structures and materials without degradation. In 1978, he created his first company " KYS, Inc.” and sold the technology to a company that created a microscope combining visual optics and acoustics. In 1981, he joined ATL Ultrasound, an American company based in Seattle, where he successfully occupied various posts such as Scientific Director of Cardiology, Strategic Marketing/Product Development Director, Vice-President of Product Generation, and finally Director of Scientific Research and Technology. It was at that moment that the idea of a portable ultrasound machine came to maturation. In 1996, he then created a second company, SonoSite, which grew to a worldwide installed base of 90,000 ultrasound devices and became the third largest ultrasound company in the United States. SonoSite was later purchased by Fujifilm for 1 billion dollars.
From 2000 to 2005, he joined Philips Medical and became Director of Research and Scientific Development and Worldwide Senior Vice-President. In 2005, Jacques Souquet founded Supersonic Imagine, an ultrasound medical imaging company that markets a revolutionary ultrasound platform. The company entered the stock market in April 2014. Jacques Souquet holds 10 patents in the field of acoustic imaging. He is the inventor of the multiplane transesophageal echo probe, which is still widely used in echocardiography examinations.
