JOBEL: The only Electronic Logbook for Atlantic Canada's Strategic Fisheries officially recognized

CHANDLER, QC, April 27, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - JOBEL extends to New Brunswick: For the second year in a row, JOBEL, the Elog for fishermen is the only electronic logbook qualified by DFO. 2019 marks the introduction of the electronic logbook in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island for lobster boats, crabbers and shrimpers.

Each fishery involved in the deployment of Elogs by DFO in Quebec and New Brunswick (snow crab, shrimp, lobster, herring and mackerel gillnet) therefore has a JOBEL fishing module.

Nomination at the Mercuriades 2019: JOBEL is finalist at the prestigious Mercuriades 2019 competition in the new technology category. The recognition of the web technology developed by the RPPSG and its team shows that today the capture industry and its actors have definitely entered the 21st century. Multiple skills in many areas exist in the capture industry and JOBEL is a good example of what fishermen can do.

JOBEL is an essential tool for fishermen and DFO. It facilitates real-time management of landings, allows DFO to have more accurate landing data and better manage the resource. Fishery data captured by fishermen are also essential for traceability of catches and access to US and European markets.

For the fishermen, the passage of the paper to JOBEL is a gain of real time. It does not take more than one minute 30 to complete his declaration. Electronic catch reporting now allows the fisherman to keep the catch reports confidential.

For 4 years, the electronic declaration of the captures is embraced by the fishermen. The JOBEL elog is accessible to everyone, regardless of age and initial skills with smartphones and tablets. A free training program set up by the RPPSG and the technical support team allows personalized support for everyone to facilitate this transition to new technologies.
