Jodi Kruger Named Recipient of the George P. Doherty Award from DeVry University’s Keller Graduate School of Management

DeVry University’s Keller Graduate School of Management alumna Jodi Kruger is the 2010 George P. Doherty Award recipient. The prestigious national award was presented to Kruger, a Kansas City, Mo. resident whose work in the field of environmental science management and volunteer work mentoring students in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields exemplifies the excellence set forth in the Doherty Award selection criteria.

"Jodi is a proud Keller graduate who understands the importance of her advanced degree and recognizes the role she now plays in the support of others,” said Jennifer Mathes, Ph.D., dean of academic affairs at Keller Graduate School of Management in Kansas City. "We are equally as proud of her professional accomplishments and dedication to giving back to her community.”

Presently, Ms. Kruger directs the water and wastewater laboratory at Blue Valley Labs, providing water and wastewater testing to the Kansas City metropolitan area. In addition, Kruger also owns an environmental consulting company—Giving Tree Environmental—that focuses on risk assessment and quality control to provide solutions for the environmental issues of residential and commercial entities.

Kruger’s commitment to serving others is also impressive. She has served as a volunteer for a myriad of programs offering opportunity and the resources to others so they might attain success. Kruger’s community involvement includes roles with an afterschool program for inner city schools run by the Paseo Partnership at Midwest Research Institute; the Missouri STEM Program; and five consecutive years mentoring high school students competing in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics program.

About the George P. Doherty Outstanding Student Award

The George P. Doherty Award is presented annually in memory of George P. Doherty, past president of DeVry Institute, who joined the Keller Graduate School of Management’s board of directors and advisory council in 1974 and served until his death in 1982. The award recognizes an outstanding Keller graduate student who exemplifies the same qualities of leadership and strength of character in the pursuit of excellence that Mr. Doherty exhibited throughout his tenure.
