Kansas City Southern Q3 Profit Grows - Quick Facts
(RTTNews) - Freight rail transporter Kansas City Southern or KCS' (KSU) third-quarter reported net income rose to $119 million, or $1.07 per share, from $91 million, or $0.82 per share a year ago. Excluding the impacts of debt retirement costs and foreign exchange rate fluctuations, adjusted earnings per share for the recent period were $1.10, compared with the prior year's $0.95. On average, 20 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings per share of $1.11 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.
In the third quarter of 2013, revenues totaled $622 million, an increase of 8% over third quarter 2012 on a 3% improvement in carloads. Analysts projected revenues of $622.27 million for the quarter.
The company said third-quarter revenue growth was led by a 17% growth in Intermodal. Revenues from Industrial & Consumer, Agriculture & Minerals and Automotive grew by 7%, with revenues from Energy and Chemicals & Petroleum rising by 6% and 3%, respectively, over 2012.
