Kirkbride Center Expands Capacity to Respond to Opioid Crisis
PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 19, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Kirkbride Center is one of the largest Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs in Philadelphia. As a player on the front lines of opioid treatment, it offers three forms of Medication Assisted Treatment: Methadone, Suboxone and Vivitrol.
Effective Feb. 1, 2019, Kirkbride Center has changed its service continuum to meet the unmet needs of its community for additional Medications Assisted Treatment capacity. Kirkbride Center has provided a Behavioral Care continuum specializing in Methadone treatment since 2000. Over the years with the constantly increasing demand for such services, Kirkbride has also become a licensed provider for Suboxone and Vivitrol. Kirkbride is both licensed and certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs for Medication Assisted Treatment with special Behavioral Health Care Opioid Treatment Accreditation by the Joint Commission.
To effect an increase in MAT service capacity, Kirkbride has converted its 25-bed acute inpatient psychiatric program into a 32-bed short-term residential rehabilitation program. With that change, Kirkbride now offers:
- 140 beds of Medications Assisted Treatment residential rehabilitation;
- 37 beds of short-term non-Medication Assisted Treatment residential rehabilitation;
- 21 beds for a Medication Assisted Treatment residential detoxification program; and
- 72 beds for long-term residential rehabilitation designed for trauma victims utilizing the TREM evidenced-based model of treatment. The long-term program provides both MAT and non-MAT services based on the clients' preferences.
The Kirkbride Center continuum has a total capacity for 270 beds.
Located in West Philadelphia, Kirkbride Center is pleased to be included in the 2.7 percent of rehabilitation facilities nationally that provides all three forms of Medication Assisted Treatment: Methadone, Suboxone and Vivitrol.
