Macom Profit Soars; To Buy BinOptics For $230 Mln.

(RTTNews) - M/A-Com Technology Solutions Holdings Inc (MTSI), a supplier of high performance analog semiconductor solutions, Tuesday reported fourth-quarter net earnings of $14.5 million or $0.30 per share compared with $1.7 million or $0.04 per share last year.

Excluding items, adjusted earnings for the quarter were $0.35 per share compared with $0.25 per share a year ago.

Revenues for the quarter were $114 million compared with $84.7 million in the prior year.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimated earnings of $0.33 per share on revenues of $114.2 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

For the first quarter, the company expects adjusted earnings of $0.33 to $0.36 per share on revenues of $112 million to $115 million. Analysts expect earnings of $0.33 per share on revenues of $112.9 million.

Also, Macom agreed to buy BinOptics Corp in an all-cash deal valued at $230 million, subject to customary post-closing adjustments. BinOptics is a merchant provider of indium phosphide lasers for data centers, mobile backhaul, silicon pPhotonics and access networks. Macom expects the deal to be accretive to gross margin and earnings per share starting in the first full quarter of combined operations.

Macom said the deal broadens its optical portfolio with highly differentiated edge-emitting and surface-emitting Fabry Perot and DFB lasers; brings proprietary Etched Facet Technology (EFT) for lasers that enable compelling wafer-scale economics in both device manufacturing and testing; doubles Macom's Serviceable Addressable Market (SAM) within the optical component market; and expands growth opportunities and addressable market in data center networks.

Macom expects the deal to close by the end of its first fiscal quarter of 2015.
