WHY:

Technology is a major driver for both innovation and economic growth
and U.S. Department of Labor statistics show that technology
occupations are among the fastest-growing in the U.S. However,
women currently hold only 25 percent of technology jobs and earn just
18 percent of computing and information sciences bachelor’s degrees.

The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing was created to
encourage the computing aspirations of young women, introduce them
to leadership opportunities and careers, and generate visibility for
women’s participation in technology fields. Bank of America has been
the award’s national sponsor for the past four years.

The showcase and awards ceremony will give each winner a behind-
the-scenes look at Bank of America’s information technology infrastructure,
opportunities to meet with the bank’s IT leaders and a
chance to see exciting new technology innovations.

The 35 young women chosen as national winners were selected for
their outstanding aptitude and interest in technology and computing,
leadership ability, academic history, and plans for post-secondary
education.

WHO:

Some winners’ profiles:

Ayesha Bose of Francis Parker School loves artificial intelligence.

She spent last summer at MIT, programming a vision system for the
AMOUR VI Underwater Robot, which resulted in her semifinalist status
in the 2011 Siemens Competition.

Beth Hadley of Northville High School has been competing on robotics

teams since the sixth grade and has shared her passion by organizing
and teaching at robotics camps. She loves physics and hopes one day
to work on the Large Hadron Collider.

internship fixing over 200 computers and configuring her school's
