Metrologic Introduces Focus Its Hand-Held Area Imaging Bar Code Scanne
Business Editors/Tradeshow Writers
NRF Annual Convention 2005
BLACKWOOD, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 17, 2005--Metrologic(R) Instruments, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS:MTLG), experts in optical image capture and processing solutions, who design, manufacture and market sophisticated imaging and bar code scanning solutions for a variety of applications worldwide today announced the introduction of its first hand-held area imaging product, the MS1690 Focus(TM), at the National Retail Federation ("NRF") 2005 trade show, taking place at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City.
Among the many advantages Focus offers are a large field of view for reading wide barcodes or reading standard width codes with increased resolution as well as real time digital image capture. Metrologic's MS1690 Focus employs the technology of high-resolution CMOS imaging sensors, providing superior image quality for multifunctional applications. Focus, which incorporates Omniplanar, Inc.'s Switfdecoder(TM) software, can decode both 1D and 2D symbologies omnidirectionally, in and out of its stand, resulting in an aggressive scanner for all symbology types.
Focus allows Metrologic to further penetrate the POS, retail and industrial markets for applications that require reading 2D bar codes, including such applications as parcel imaging, documentation, healthcare patient safety and tracking, age verification identification, and the creation of personalized membership cards. Mark Schmidt, Metrologic's Senior Vice President, Marketing stated, "Focus offers customers the convenience of performing multiple functions, such as reading linear bar codes for checkout and taking pictures of damaged goods, with a single device. With its unique 'illumination-forward' optical design, state-of-the-art image sensor and Omniplanar's industry-leading Switfdecoder decoding software, Focus delivers increased functionality with the laser scanning speeds our customers expect."
Metrologic and its subsidiary, Adaptive Optics Associates, Inc., are leaders in the design and manufacture of fixed position industrial imaging systems used by some of the world's leading parcel handling companies, distribution centers, and postal services. That core technology and optical design expertise has been employed in developing Focus, a hand-held device built to endure today's toughest retail and industrial work environments. Focus provides a comprehensive set of features for ease of use, all packaged in a light-weight, rugged, rubberized housing with a modern design.
Focus is a feature rich scanner that includes an extended depth of field, stand detection that automatically switches the scanner to a "presentation" mode once it is placed in the stand, and an object detection sensor that instantly turns on the scanner when an object is prevented within the scanner's field of view. Focus incorporates Metrologic's patented CodeGate(R) technology for accurate menu style scanning and on command data transmission.
