Murgitroyd Growth Leads To New Appointments

Global intellectual property attorneys Murgitroyd today announced two new key appointments in its London and York offices that will strengthen the firm's service offering to clients.

Already one of the largest global patent and trade mark attorney firms in Europe, Murgitroyd has 13 European offices and 2 in the United States. It provides cross-sectoral expertise in engineering, ICT, software, oil and gas, renewable energy, life sciences, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, food and drink, financial and professional services, fashion, music and entertainment.

The firm, which celebrates 40 years in business this year, has steadily grown its London patent operation since 2005 when it set up a London base following the acquisition of trade mark firm Castles, and now wishes to appoint a senior patent leader in its London Group to drive continued growth and provide the best service to the firm's clients.

Michael Marchant, a qualified UK and European Patent Attorney with 12 years' experience, has been appointed Director, Patents. Michael, a Cambridge-educated specialist in the Life Sciences and Chemistry fields, manages a number of key global client portfolios, and has been instrumental to the firm's London growth in recent years. Michael commented: "I'm excited to be appointed as a Director, Patents and look forward in my new role to continuing to be part of the development and future of Murgitroyd."

In York, qualified UK and European Patent Attorney Keith Jones rejoins the firm in a Director, Patents role to support the continued growth of Murgitroyd's North of England operation. The firm, which has 2 North of England offices in York and Newcastle, has continued to recruit and to grow its client base since the opening of these offices in 2005 (York) and 2008 (Newcastle).

Keith specialises in Electronics and Software-based inventions and brings 28 years' experience to the role, gained with a number of UK patent firms (including Murgitroyd previously) and in-house patent departments, where he held a number of senior and managerial roles. Keith has worked with some of the world's largest multinationals and has gained a reputation within the profession for his no-nonsense pragmatism and business-centric approach. Keith said: "I'm delighted to come on board again at a time when so much is happening at Murgitroyd, and with such a good team in place, I feel that there is huge potential for what we can achieve".
