Natasha Zurek Wins the Roxy and DC Shoes' Second Annual ''Roxy Chicken Jam Presented by Boost Mobile''; Top Five Finishers Qualify for the European Roxy Chicken Jam in April 2006
With reigning champion Natasha Zurek returning to defend hercrown, the top pros in women's snowboarding were all invited tocompete, including Janna Meyen, Alexis Waite, Hana Beaman, TaraDakides and more. For the competition, 30 riders battled in aqualifying wildcard contest on Friday, the first day of the event. Thetop five qualifiers then entered the main session this morning,alongside the 25 invited pros. The top eight competitors from thatround advanced to the finals, where over $21,000 was up for grabs.Local amateur phenom, Christina Marie Curry surprised everyone withconsecutive first place finishes in the qualifiers and in the mainsession to advance into the finals. Putting herself on the map withher first Roxy Chicken Jam appearance, she finished strong with animpressive fifth place finish overall. A celebratory kick-off to thisyear's snow season, the Roxy Chicken Jam Presented by Boost Mobilehosted an amazing weekend of events.

The Roxy Chicken Jam Presented by Boost Mobile gave participantstwo hours to perform combinations of jump and rail maneuvers on aprogressive slopestyle course, with the best overall impressionincluding technicality and difficulty used for scoring. Thecompetition's jumps and features were tailor-made to specificallydisplay the power and agility of these elite female athletes. The"jam" style of competition also allowed riders to perform at theirhighest level by eliminating the pressure of single run judging, andplaced the emphasis on diversity and progression. To raise theexcitement and spectacle to greater heights, there was also a $1,000prize for Best Trick, sponsored by Boost Mobile, which was won byCheryl Maas for a huge backside 720 off the monstrous "Money Booter",the final kicker on the course.
