National Public Service Week to celebrate service to Canadians

OTTAWA, June 10, 2018 /CNW/ - Today marks the beginning of National Public Service Week: from June 10 to 16, federal public servants across the country will be taking part in activities and events recognizing their contribution to Canada and Canadians.

In 2017, public servants worked tirelessly to help manage floodwaters in Ontario and Quebec, and assisted with relief efforts during the BC wildfires. Public servants made great strides in modernizing service delivery to Canadians. Changes like streamlining processing time at airports, simplifying language in correspondence about taxes, and setting up automatic enrolment for the Guaranteed Income Supplement benefit, all of which have a meaningful impact on the lives of Canadians.

To date in 2018, public servants have answered over 24.5 million calls on taxes and benefits, issued 4.9 million passports, and maintained 178 missions in 110 countries around the world. These are but a few of the reasons why Canada's public service has earned a reputation of excellence, ranked first out of 31 countries by the International Civil Service Effectiveness Index.

Quote

"Good government starts with good people. Canada's public service is made up of highly respected and capable people who are dedicated to serving Canadians with pride. During National Public Service Week we celebrate all the ways in which federal public servants have had, and continue to have, a positive impact on our country and the wider world."

-       The Honourable Scott Brison, President of the Treasury Board
