Nissan's Glow-In-The Dark Leaf Teaser
(RTTNews) - Nissan is trying out glow-in-the-dark cars, with its European operations demonstrating the illuminating concept on its popular electric car Leaf.
The paint works with the use of a rare Earth element along with sunlight-based UV energy. The product, Starpath, created by an inventor Hamish Scott, absorbs the sun's rays during the day and glows up to about 10 hours after sunset. The paint will also have a duration of about 25 years.
Nissan said it has no plans to sell the paint commercially or license it.
Nissan said the technology is part of its focus on using solar energy and to propagate it among households.
The automaker is also experimenting with a self-cleaning car paint that can shed dirt and grease.
