NovAtel Inc. Announces First Integrated GPS/L-Band Receiver Utilizing CDGPS Corrections

    News Editors

CALGARY, Alberta--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 5, 2005--NovAtel Inc. (NASDAQ:NGPS), a precise positioning company, announces its latest ProPak-LB receiver with Canada-wide Differential GPS (CDGPS). The ProPak-LB combines GPS + L-Band technologies utilizing CDGPS corrections to deliver reliable and accurate sub-meter positioning in dynamic environments.

CDGPS is a wide area correction broadcast on the L-Band designed by the Canadian federal and provincial governments to support high accuracy land, sea and air positioning and navigation. It is a free utility with corrections covering the majority of North America. To take advantage of and support CDGPS, NovAtel is first in developing GPS user equipment that combines a GPS and L-Band receiver into a common enclosure capable of receiving CDGPS signals to provide positioning results in the national spatial reference frame, NAD83.

According to Farlin Halsey, Vice President, Marketing for NovAtel, "The ProPak-LB with CDGPS has many advantages over other existing wide area correction systems. Most importantly, it delivers superior correction signal penetration and high accuracy/high resolution differential GPS corrections critical to many dynamic positioning applications. In addition, there is no subscription cost for users of this service. These features make the ProPak-LB with CDGPS an ideal sub-meter positioning system for applications in a wide range of markets including agriculture, GIS, marine, and unmanned systems."

CDGPS functionality is available as a free firmware upgrade for current users of the ProPak-LB and will be included as a standard feature on all new units. The system is configured as a single receiver and antenna and requires no separate base station. A companion antenna - the GPS-600-LB - is also available from NovAtel.
