Pacer Distribution Services Strengthens Management Team; Three Significant Appointments Underscore Focus on Increased Effectiveness in a Growing Market

    Business Editors/Logistics & Transportation Writers

SOUTH GATE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 2005--The continued strong growth of imports arriving at the U.S. West Coast from Asia has spurred Pacer Distribution Services (PDS), the warehousing and distribution operation of Pacer International (Nasdaq:PACR), to strengthen its management team and position itself for increased business growth.
The Pacer operation, which provides a full range of customized freight-handling services, operates three major Los Angeles-area warehouses totaling 800,000 square feet.
Kent Prokop, PDS president, has announced the following key management appointments, aimed at building world-class capabilities in a growing market:

-- Jeff Lindner, with more than 20 years of operations and sales experience, has joined PDS as vice president of Sales. His responsibilities include marketing customized freight-handling services that include consolidation, deconsolidation, cross-dock work, warehousing, and related drayage (local trucking), and helping to integrate them with other supply-chain services provided by the Pacer International group. Lindner previously served as director of Business Development for Exel, Inc., where he marketed integrated solutions for the "high tech" sector.

-- Jose Tobias, a 20-year veteran of freight logistics, has been named vice president of Operations, responsible for managing operations at the company's warehouses and cross-dock facilities and achieving world-class efficiency. Prior to joining PDS last fall, he served as general operations manager for Syratech Inc., and also managed a 1.1 million square foot facility for Toys R Us.

-- Clem Cleri has been promoted to vice president of PDS Trucking, the operation's local trucking (drayage) provider that enables Pacer to combine warehousing and freight-handling services with and pick-up and delivery capabilities for customers. Formerly general manager of the drayage operation, Cleri has more than 30 years of experience in trucking. Before joining Pacer, he served as director of operations for the southern region of Crescent Truck Lines, and was also associated with ANR Freight System and TNT.

Said Prokop: "With this skilled, experienced management team fully in place, PDS is making progress in achieving improved execution of our customers' precise distribution requirements and utilization of facilities, and we are better positioned to capitalize on market growth." He added: "As a reflection of that, we are also improving our financial performance.
"I expect Pacer Distribution Services, through these improvements in management and in execution, to be in a position to contribute -- in our own way -- to a smoother flow of freight in Southern California this year."
