Partnership Formed Between Private and Public Sectors Benefits Education

LOS ANGELES, July 1, 2013 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/-- Congratulations are in order for Monica Flores of Santa Barbara Unified School District, Samuel Carrillo of San Diego Unified School District, Evan Morter of Ojai Unified School District, and Emma Knoesen and Isabelle Chen, both of the Davis Joint Unified School District.

These students were recently named the five winners of the fourth annual Why Education Matters series, a unique collaboration between the California Association of California Latino Superintendents & Administrators (CALSA) and Fagen Friedman & Fulfrost LLP (F3).

As part of the application process, students from across the state wrote essays on how they personally define success and the role education plays in helping them combine personal passions with professional aspirations. Essays were reviewed and assessed by leaders of CALSA, a professional association comprised of Latino educational leaders statewide dedicated to closing the Latina/o achievement gap.

"It is inspirational to assist these future leaders with the essential educational step in helping them achieve their goals," observed CALSA Executive Director Dr. David Gomez. "In these trying financial times, it is important for private organizations to proactively address and support our students. I have the highest regard for F3 and their generosity."

F3, a comprehensive public education law firm, sponsored the Why Education Matters education awards. From six locations across the state, F3 represents over 500 of the states public school districts and county offices of education.

"We know that our clients are dedicated to serving students," said F3 Managing Partner Jan Tomsky. "We established the F3 Educational Foundation and partnerships with leading education associations, including CALSA, to help recognize and reward public educations many student success stories. It is our deepest honor to recognize and support these terrific students."

"These students are our future," concluded BRIDGES Charter School Executive Director and CALSA Member Ruben Diaz. "I could not be more proud of them, and we are honored to play a part in helping them achieve their aspirations."
