Piedmont Natural Gas Elects Michael C. Tarwater to Board of Directors

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Board of Directors of Piedmont Natural Gas (NYSE: PNY) has elected Michael C. Tarwater to the Board of the Company effective November 1, 2013.

Mr. Tarwater is Chief Executive Officer of Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS), a multi-faceted system that owns and manages hospitals, nursing homes, physician practices and outpatient diagnostic and treatment facilities in both North and South Carolina.  Prior to his election as CEO, Mr. Tarwater served as CHS's Executive Vice President and COO from June 1989 to June 2002.  Before joining CHS in 1981, Mr. Tarwater was the Assistant Administrator for the University of Alabama Hospitals in Birmingham, Alabama.

Mr. Tarwater holds a master's degree of science in hospital and health administration from The University of Alabama in Birmingham and a bachelor of science degree in business administration from The University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida.

Mr. Tarwater is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and is a life member and past Chairman of the North Carolina Hospital Association where he was the 2007 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award.  Mr. Tarwater serves on the Board of Trustees of the American Hospital Association and, since 2010, on the Board of Trustees of Queens University of Charlotte where he recently joined its Executive Committee in 2012.  Mr. Tarwater also currently serves as the 1^st Vice Chairman of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.
