BlackBerry Ltd. (BBRY) is gaining 7 percent to $10.50. The company announced that its board has formed a Special Committee to explore strategic alternatives, including possible joint ventures, strategic partnerships or alliances, a sale of the company or other possible transactions.

Apple Inc. (AAPL) is up 0.67 percent to $457.50.

Tesla Motors, Inc. (TSLA) is down over 2 percent to $148.86.

Perion Network Ltd (PERI) is down 6 percent to $11.28. The company's second quarter profit and revenues were higher than in the prior year period. Meanwhile, the company guided third quarter revenues to grow 30 percent year over year, but to decline sequentially. The company also announced it has entered into, and launched, a multi-year search and distribution relationship with Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO).

J. C. Penney Company, Inc. (JCP) is down 1 percent to $12.70. The company's board is reportedly considering taking action against William Ackman after the activist hedge-fund manager released confidential boardroom deliberations in two separate letters last week.

Vical Inc. (VICL) is plunging 60 percent to $1.41. The company announced that it has decided to terminate the Allovectin program, as the Phase 3 trial of Allovectin (velimogene aliplasmid), an investigational intratumoral cancer immunotherapy, in patients with metastatic melanoma, did not meet either the primary or secondary efficacy endpoints.
