EXPERT ALERT:
Jenny McCarthy Appointment Will Provide National Platform for Dangerous View
David M. Perry
Associate Professor of History and Director of the Catholic Studies program
Dominican University in River Forest, Ill.
Perry, the father of a special needs child, has personal reasons for fearing Jenny McCarthy's recent appointment to "The View." In his newest essay for TheAtlantic.com, Perry discusses the dangers and risks presented by McCarthy and her anti-vaccination movement and the harm that she presents given "The View"'s national audience. McCarthy puts "the full force of her celebrity to the task of convincing parents to leave their children vulnerable."
In addition, Perry believes that McCarthy and her fellow anti-vaccinators are risking the lives of those children with compromised immune systems who cannot be vaccinated, such as his son, who has Down syndrome. "In a population of vaccinated people, infectious but preventable diseases have trouble spreading even to the immune-compromised. But 'herd immunity' breaks down when vaccinations are not administered to all who can medically receive them." Perry writes a blog focusing on parenting issues and the historical context of contemporary issues.

Preconception Health and Wellness
Amy Ogle, M.S, R.D.
Preconception Health and Wellness Expert and Author
"Most men don't realize that the best gift they can give their future son or daughter is making themselves as healthy as possible prior to trying to conceive. That is why it's so important to give at least 90 days to prepare for pregnancy. What a man eats, how he exercises and what he's exposed to in the environment during those 90 days can all affect sperm health."
Ogle is a nationally recognized clinician, educator and author with expertise in nutrition and exercise physiology who is well-known and frequently sought after for her expertise in nutrition and exercise pertaining to preconception, pregnancy and the interconception period, the time period between the end of one pregnancy and the beginning of another. She is co-author of "Editor's Choice Award: Before Your Pregnancy: A 90-Day Guide for Couples on How to Prepare for a Healthy Conception" (Ballantine Books, 2002).
