PSA Peugeot Citroën Recognised For Its Environmental Performance
Regulatory News:
On 4 February 2013, PSA Peugeot Citroën (Paris:UG) received the Ecobest 2012 award for marketing a wide range of technologies designed to improve its vehicles' environmental performance.
The Group is once again European leader in low carbon vehicles in 2012 with average CO2 emissions of 122.5 grams per kilometre.
Christian Chapelle, Vice President Powertrain and Chassis Engineering, was presented with the award by a jury of automotive journalists from 15 countries in Central and Eastern Europe, in the presence of Kostís Hadjidákis, Greek Minister for Transport and Infrastructures.
In particular, the jury saluted the Group’s world premiere launch of HYbrid4 diesel hybrid technology as well as its marketing of micro-hybrid solutions.
Each year, the Group allocates substantial sums to reducing the CO2 emissions of the vehicles its sells with the goal of offering a clean car for every type of use. Advances in powertrain technology, combined with work to reduce vehicle weight and improve aerodynamic performance, have made it possible for the Group to lower its corporate average CO2 emissions to 122.5 grams per kilometre and meet the European Commission’s 2015 target in 2011.
The Group offers a broad array of technologies, ranging from conventional engines to pure electrics.
- Internal combustion engines are continuously being improved, as seen in the 1-litre, 3-cylinder EB engine, which is both compact and efficient.
- PSA Peugeot Citroën has also extended e-HDi micro-hybrid technology across the line-up. By shutting down the engine when the vehicle is at a standstill, this technology can reduce fuel consumption in city driving by up to 15%, which also means fewer CO2 emissions.
- In 2012, the Group introduced its HYbrid4 technology for the world’s first diesel hybrids. HYbrid4 is already available on the Peugeot 508, 508 RXH and 3008 and the Citroën DS5. Less than a year after these launches, the Group has become the number two European carmaker for hybrid vehicles, with 14% of the market.
- Lastly, PSA Peugeot Citroën leads the electric vehicle market in France and ranks second in Europe as a whole, with more than 6,500 Peugeot iOns and Citroën C-Zeros sold in 2012. Light commercial vehicles will be added to the EV line-up in 2013.
The Group’s engineers are also pursuing research on breakthrough innovations that will further improve environmental performance. In particular, PSA Peugeot Citroën recently unveiled several revolutionary technologies in a world first, including:
- Hybrid Air, an innovative petrol/compressed air full-hybrid solution. This technology represents a major step in the drive to a 2l/100km car.
- Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), which helps eliminate NOx emissions from diesel engines and reduces fuel consumption, and will be fitted as standard on all Euro VI diesel engines from 2013.
