Quest Software Delivers Latest Migration Tool: From Exchange Public Folders to SharePoint
Quest Software, Inc. (Nasdaq:QSFT) brings more than a decade of migration experience to a new challenge facing today’s IT professionals: migration of Exchange Server public folder data to Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies. The company’s newest product, Quest Public Folder Migrator for SharePoint, builds on Quest’s expertise helping organizations automate and manage migration onto the Microsoft platform as well as migrating to new versions of Microsoft technologies. Quest will be offering demonstrations of this product at Microsoft Tech·Ed IT Forum 2006, booth A26. "Many organizations that use Exchange Server have amassed a huge number of public folders over the past 10 years,” said David Ferris, president and senior analyst, Ferris Research. "When they decide to migrate this data, for instance to SharePoint, both business and technical challenges can arise. It is imperative that IT have a defined project management plan to address these challenges before, during and after migration, and Quest has done just that by using its knowledge of migration and extending it to SharePoint.” Organizations typically store large amounts of data in Exchange Public Folders, and may not choose to move all of this data into SharePoint. A second Quest product, MessageStats™, can be used for pre-migration assessments of public folder content. This assessment can reveal where public folders reside, how they are being used, how active they are, as well as permissions structures and other relevant environmental information to support good decision making and avoid errors and delays in the migration to SharePoint. After these assessments have been completed, Public Folder Migrator for SharePoint helps organizations save time and money and improve performance during migration. Project management is centralized within a single console, allowing administrators to schedule migrations when convenient for the organization, manage multiple migration jobs, and to execute bulk migrations to speed up the process. With data movement on this scale, data integrity is a key concern. Public Folder Migrator for SharePoint eliminates old information by synchronizing the public folders to SharePoint. There is also a need for the transition to the new environment to be seamless for the end user, and Quest continues to deliver ZeroIMPACT™ migrations by ensuring that end users are automatically and transparently redirected to SharePoint. "Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies are becoming the industry standard and the 2007 release of the Microsoft Office SharePoint Server will add even more value to organizations,” said Wim Dierickx, product and solution manager, Information Worker, Microsoft EMEA. "Organizations that want to use Microsoft Office SharePoint Server as their collaboration platform of choice are looking for efficient ways to get business-critical data moved to this platform, and we are glad that Quest has developed a tool that applies Quest’s traditional strength in migration to address this new challenge.” Quest Public Folder Migrator for SharePoint version 1.0 represents Quest’s next step in supporting its comprehensive strategy for management of SharePoint. Earlier this year the company announced its Quest Discovery Wizard for SharePoint freeware and Quest Site Administrator for SharePoint. Quest’s SharePoint roadmap also includes a granular content recovery product, with the beta program for that product starting today. "We understand that organizations are looking to use SharePoint as their collaborative platform of choice,” said David Waugh, vice president, SharePoint solutions, Quest Software. "We have already delivered management tools for SharePoint, and now continue to build on our comprehensive strategy with Quest Public Folder Migrator for SharePoint. The next step in this full cycle management approach is to help organizations recover documents or items on SharePoint that have been mistakenly deleted or lost. We have an automated tool in beta starting today to ease this pain, and will be announcing more about that early next year.” Pricing and Availability Version 1.0 of Quest Public Folder Migrator for SharePoint is available immediately and is architected under a single console that includes enterprise management with Site Administrator and bulk migration with Public Folder Migrator for SharePoint. North American pricing begins at $15 per managed user (USD) for existing Site Administrator customers or $25 per managed user (USD) which includes a Site Administrator license.
