Regions Financial Enters Private Student Loan Business Through Agreement with First Marblehead; New School Channel Offering Complements Bank's Existing FFELP Loan Business

The First Marblehead Corporation (NYSE: FMD) todayannounced that it will provide private school channel student loanproducts for Regions Financial Corporation (NYSE: RF). Regions Banksales teams will immediately begin marketing its new private studentloan program directly to schools within the 16 states it servesthroughout the South, Midwest and Texas.

The new private student loan program will complement Regions'existing Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) offering. In2005, Regions generated more than $200 million in FFELP loans.
