It is vital to create a healthy balance in life to help people survive—and thrive—through these challenging life situations. Here are some methods on how to create a soothing environment.
Starting each day on a positive note can set one up for success. Be thankful for the new day and the opportunities it is sure to bring. Smile and practice some mindful breathing. This will increase energy, nourish cells, and relax the mind. While still lying in bed, breathe in and out slowly through the nose, focusing on how each breath flows down the body. It is also important to nourish the body first thing in the morning by moving—whether it be yoga, a walk, swim, run, or trip to the gym. Exercise for 45 minutes, connecting with the body's rhythm and feeling the increased circulation. Follow this ritual with a healthy breakfast. A smoothie, hot oats, or eggs are all good choices. Incorporating almond milk, chia sees, berries, and other fruits will also nourish the body for hours. Making sensible food choices for remaining meals by choosing fresh ingredients and plenty of fruits and vegetables—and avoiding processed foods—will also "feed" the mind, asserts Stephen M. Dowicz. Eat slowly, appreciating each bite and thinking about how important it is to fuel the body properly.
When not at work, take time to nourish the mind. Obviously, there are many ways to do this. Reading, meditating, journaling, or simply spending some time in nature come to mind. It is vital to savor the pleasure of being in the moment and appreciating downtime.
End each day by unwinding. Burn some essential oils, light some candles, and/or put on some calming music. Slowly drink a cup of tea and reflect on the day. Soak in the tub and prepare for a good night's rest. Once in bed, take one mindful breath and drift off to sleep.
