Based on Intel's Thunderbolt technology, Sumitomo Electric has developed thin Thunderbolt cables, and recently obtained Intel Corporation's official certification for the new Thunderbolt product. This advancement in cable technology allows for a conventional 4.2mm diameter to be reduced to 3.2mm without sacrificing performance. The thin Thunderbolt cable will be available in lengths of 0.3 m, 0.5 m, 1.0 m and 2.0 m, and in colors of black and white. The variety of these 8 new items will be added to the existing 15 products (12 metal cables and 3 optical cables).

Achievement for thin Thunderbolt cables results in approximately 25% smaller outer diameter and 42% smaller sectional area allowing this compact design improved flexibility and user friendliness. Transmission data rates are not compromised by this thin construction, and can reliably maintain high speed 10Gbps standards for this high technology cable.
