SuperSonic Imagine Launches its Aixplorer® Musculoskeletal Application

Regulatory News:

SuperSonic Imagine (Paris:SSI) (Euronext: SSI, FR0010526814), a company specializing in ultrasound medical imaging, is pleased to announce the launch of a new musculoskeletal application on its ultrasound machine, the Aixplorer®, which will facilitate musculoskeletal and sports medicine diagnoses.

Aixplorer, the new reference in musculoskeletal imaging

Already covering all general imaging applications, SuperSonic Imagine is now widening its scope to cover musculoskeletal and sports medicine.

The new high-frequency "hockey stick” transducer (the SHL20-6) provides very high-resolution images of muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. It complements the linear transducer range to provide unrivalled image quality for both very superficial and deep zones.

SuperSonic Imagine’s patented ShearWave™ Elastography system allows practitioners to view and measure tissue stiffness of up to 800kPa in real-time. This is particularly useful for diagnosing and monitoring tendinopathies and examining muscular load with real-time visualization of the anatomic and functional image of the muscle in full use.

"Musculoskeletal disorders are a serious problem for public health. They are the primary cause of work related illness, and affect more and more individuals involved in intense sports. This new dedicated application provides advanced diagnostic tools that can better identify and treat these disorders” explains Jacques Souquet, founder and CEO of SuperSonic Imagine.

Aixplorer serving top athletes

Recently, as part of the MUST medical project during the ultra-marathon "Le Tor des Géants”, the new musculoskeletal application was used in a clinical trial to better understand the impact of ultra-endurance on muscles. The initial results of the trial are due to be published in the first half of 2015.

SuperSonic Imagine’s technology is also being used to monitor muscular and tendon injuries sustained by players of the Toulon Rugby Club (European champions in 2013 and 2014, French champions in 2014) where the Aixplorer ultrasound system is used by the medical staff.

"The Aixplorer’s performance and innovation in musculoskeletal imaging are so impressive that we felt it was important to develop partnerships in the field of elite sports. The muscles and tendons of these athletes require a particularly high level of ultrasound imaging ” explains Yves Tenaglia, vice-president of SuperSonic Imagine Europe.

About SuperSonic Imagine
Founded in 2005 and based in Aix-en-Provence (France), SuperSonic Imagine is a company specializing in medical imaging. The company designs, develops and markets a revolutionary ultrasound system, Aixplorer®, with an UltraFast™ platform that can acquire images 200 times faster than conventional ultrasound systems. Aixplorer® is the only system that can image two types of waves: ultrasound waves ensure excellent image quality and shear waves, which allow physicians to visualize and analyze the stiffness of tissue in a real-time, reliable, reproducible and non-invasive manner. This innovation, ShearWave™Elastography, significantly improves the detection and characterization of numerous pathologies in several applications including breast, thyroid, liver and prostate. SuperSonic Imagine has been granted regulatory clearances for the commercialization of Aixplorer® in the main global markets. Over the past years, SuperSonic Imagine enjoyed the backing of several prestigious investors, among which Auriga Partners, Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners, Bpifrance, Omnes Capital and NBGI.
