Susan Whiting appointed to Alliant Energy Corporation Board of Directors

MADISON, Wis., July 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Susan D. Whiting, Vice Chair of Nielsen, was named a new director of Alliant Energy Corporation today.

Ms. Whiting has spent her career at Nielsen, beginning in 1978 as part of the company's management training program. Since then, Ms. Whiting has held various management positions at the company, including Executive Vice President, Chair of Nielsen's global media business, and President and Chief Executive Officer of Nielsen's U.S. television and advertising business. She became Vice Chair in 2008, expanded her portfolio to include Chief Diversity Officer in 2010 and she also serves on Nielsen's Executive Council. Nielsen is a leading global provider of information and insights into what consumers watch and buy.

Ms. Whiting, 56, and her two children live in Chicago. She grew up in Lake Geneva, Wis. and attended Denison University, receiving a degree in economics. Ms. Whiting currently serves as a trustee of the University. Throughout her career, Ms. Whiting has received numerous awards and recognition. She is a recipient of the International Women's Forum's Women Who Make a Difference Award and has been named to The Wall Street Journal's "Women to Watch," Crain's New York Business' "100 Most Influential Women in New York City" and Today's Chicago Woman's "100 Women of Influence" lists.

Ms. Whiting serves on several boards, including the Ad Council, the YMCA of Greater New York, and The Trust for Public Land. In addition, she is a vice chair on the Corporate Fund Board of the Kennedy Center of Performing Arts. Ms. Whiting is also chair of the Board of Trustees for Chicago's Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and a member of the Economic Club of Chicago, the International Women's Forum and the Chicago Women's Network.

Ms. Whiting will stand for election at the Alliant Energy's 2014 Annual Meeting as a nominee for director to serve for a three-year term expiring in 2017. She will serve on the Compensation and Personnel Committee and the Safety, Environmental, Policy and Operations Committee.
