    Business Editors/High-Tech Editors

MORRISVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 9, 2005--Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), a leading developer of telecommunications products for next-generation fixed, mobile and packet networks, today announced plans to incorporate the Siemens optiPoint family of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) phones into its expanding portfolio of next-generation telephony offerings.
Initial deployments of the Siemens optiPoint(TM) 410 and 420 SIP phone families are planned at TeleSpectrum, a Tekelec customer, in 2005. TeleSpectrum, a part of Telecommunicatie B.V., is a reseller of telecom and data solutions based in the Netherlands. With the combined Tekelec 6000 VoIP Applications Server and the Siemens optiPoint family of SIP phones, TeleSpectrum will benefit from a comprehensive suite of voice over IP (VoIP) telephony features, applications and phones.
"Tekelec has created significant traction among operators with its comprehensive endpoint portfolio and interoperability initiatives," said Mark Straton, senior vice president of marketing for Siemens Communications, Inc. "Siemens will continue to work with TeleSpectrum and Tekelec to deliver standards-based SIP phones, with flexible features and options designed to maximize user efficiency and to help organizations reduce the costs of moves, additions and changes. Our next generation of VoIP devices, networks and presence-enhanced applications are all designed to create barrier-free communications no matter where people work, live or travel."
Patrick van der Spek, managing director at TeleSpectrum Managed Voice Services, added, "We chose the partnership of Tekelec and Siemens because of the advanced hosted IP telephony solutions Tekelec offers, which are unique in the Netherlands. Siemens is well known for its excellent network of innovative products, services and solutions."
Tekelec is the only IP telephony application developer to support the four industry-standard IP phone protocol--SIP, media gateway control protocol (MGCP), signaling connection control part (SCCP) and MiNet. It now supports 40 different integrated access devices and IP phone models, as well as the largest number of deployed SIP end-points in a managed network, thus continuing its leadership in supporting a wider variety of endpoints than any other hosted IP telephony application developer.
Tricia Hosek, president and general manager of the Tekelec Switching Solutions Group, added, "The Siemens optiPoint family of IP phones offers unrivaled adaptability and portability across platforms for businesses looking to build a solid, future-proof communications foundation. The optiPoint IP phones further enable Tekelec to provide customers with a comprehensive suite of IP phone capabilities to meet any end-user's needs."
