NEW YORK, Dec. 5, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU), a non-profit U.S. business association dedicated to forging relationships and promoting dialogue between government and business communities across the globe, today announced the recipients of its annual Dwight D. Eisenhower Global Awards. Headlined by The Dow Chemical Company Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Liveris, this year's awards will also honor Goh Choon Phong in recognition of his transformational leadership as the Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Airlines.

The 2016 Eisenhower Global Awards Gala will take place on December 5, 2016 in New York City. Held annually, the event brings together a community of distinguished leaders in international business, the arts and media, with senior government officials, ambassadors and diplomats from throughout the world to celebrate the awards, modeled after President Eisenhower's global view of commercial diplomacy.

Receiving the Business Statesman Award, Mr. Liveris has a proven track record as a results-driven global business leader and recognized change architect for more than 40 years. During more than a decade as the company's CEO, he has led Dow's transformation from a cyclical chemicals manufacturing company into a novel enterprise – one powered by science, driven by innovation and delivering solutions to the world. Mr. Liveris' breadth of experience and expertise is also broadly represented across business, government, academic and non-profit sectors.

"I am deeply honored by this award on behalf of Dow and our long history of collaborations at the intersections of business, government and civil society," said Mr. Liveris. "It is through the efforts of organizations like Business Council for International Understanding, that we will create shared prosperity and growth that truly benefits everyone."

Since 2003, the Dwight D. Eisenhower Global Leadership Award has been given to business executives whose management and direction have driven revolutionary advancement and fueled commerce across the world. Mr. Liveris extends a prestigious roster of recipients, which includes Masami Iijima (2015), Klaus Kleinfeld (2014) and Ratan Tata (2013), Carlos Slim (2012), and Sergio Marchionne (2011).

The first BCIU Global Innovation Award recipient from Southeast Asia, Mr. Goh is a visionary whose transformational leadership has elevated and energized both the company's brand as well as its people. During Mr. Goh's six-year tenure at the helm of the airline's operations, the company has achieved tremendous success, thriving in a competitive, dynamic industry and connecting the world to Singapore.

"The perseverance of our staff, combined with their shared enthusiasm and constant desire to enhance the travel experience of our customers, makes this an award for all our employees, rather than just for me," said Mr. Goh. "I wish to thank the Business Council for International Understanding for this accolade, and am proud to accept it on behalf of the 25,000 employees of the SIA Group worldwide."

"BCIU is honored to present the 2016 Eisenhower Awards to a new set of exemplary international business leaders making outstanding contributions in their respective industries," said Peter Tichansky, President and CEO of BCIU. "Throughout their distinguished careers, Mr. Liveris and Mr. Goh have shown a remarkable commitment to global commerce and we honor them today not just for past accomplishments but also for those yet to come."
