Time travel and traditional values combine to fulfill a dream in The Miracle of Bean's Bullion by Mark Trenowden
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia, Aug. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- 'I wish my Dad had lived to see this.' With these words Mark Trenowden's wife sowed a seed. Spurred on by his children's demands for a new story and using the setting of their holiday home in Nova Scotia he set about writing the Miracle of Bean's Bullion. The miracle would require several ingredients. A little time travel, nature's essence, a sprinkling of local folklore and the magic of a retro diner that all come together to right a wrong and fulfill a dream.

The Miracle of Bean's Bullion, by London based author and former schoolmaster Mark Trenowden has been well received in his native England. Whilst the story is aimed at the 9-14 age group it appears to have bridged the ages and is hard at work blowing the trumpet of Nova Scotia as a holiday destination. One reader wrote 'The story is set in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, and the descriptions of this beautiful part of the world really made me want to visit.
The story starts in 1962 when the central character 'Bird' Doggley is spirited through time to the present day. In his new world he encounters the grandchildren of his best friend, Bobby Bean who are on holiday from England. With their help and that of the mysterious Jonny Eagle they attempt to solve a local mystery of stolen gold bullion. If this goes to plan, then there is the small matter of whether Bird will make it back to his own time. If he does will he change the course of history and future events? Time will tell.
The Miracle of Bean's Bullion is unusual amongst children's books in that it does not belittle the reader. It is intelligently written and a perfect book for children and young adults who would maybe appreciate a slight challenge in their stories. This is not to say that it is hard going, far from it, it is a lot of fun and the plot and the humor keep the story flowing and the reader interested.
The Miracle of Bean's Bullion is Mark Trenowden's second book for children. The artwork is by the US based illustrator Adam Murray.
