TSX Down At Open Friday

(RTTNews) - Bay Street stocks moved down at open Friday amid selling across a variety of sectors, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index shedding 39.10 points or 0.29 percent to 13,555.10.

In the oil patch, Paramount Resources (POU.TO) was down close to 3 percent, while Suncor Energy (SU.TO) and Canadian Natural Resources (CNQ.TO) slipping around 0.50 percent each.

In the financial space, Scotiabank (BNS.TO), CIBC (CM.TO), National Bank (NA.TO) and Royal Bank (RY.TO) dipped nearly 1 percent each.

Meanwhile, gold stocks were trading firm amid steady bullion prices. The Global Gold Index edged up 0.50 percent, with Detour Gold (DGC.TO) jumping nearly 5 percent. Barrick Gold (ABX.TO) and Agnico-Eagle Mines (AEM.TO) moved up marginally.

Drug development company Aeterna Zentaris Inc. (AEZ.TO) gained about 3 percent after announcing the appointment of Richard Sachse as Senior Vice President, Chief Scientific Officer

Transportation company Canadian Pacific Railway (CP.TO) edged up 0.20 percent after it said that it sold the west end of its Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern line to Genesee & Wyoming Inc.
