TSX In Doldrums Despite Flurry Of Earnings -- Canadian Commentary
(RTTNews) - Canadian stocks were little changed for a second straight session Thursday, staying near recent 11-month highs.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index was up 5.10 points, or 0.04 percent, to 14,551.64.
Looking at the flurry of corporate news, Barrick Gold Corp (ABX.TO) announced earnings for its second quarter that more than doubled from last year. Shares were down fractionally.
Kinross (K.TO) reported a narrower loss in the second quarter. The company expects to suspend operations at a Chilean gold mine in the fourth quarter. The stock was up 0.30 percent.
Goldcorp Inc. (G.TO) reported a second quarter loss amid lower gold production. Shares were down 6.2 percent.
Oil major Suncor (SU.TO) was hit hard by the Alberta wildfire. The second-quarter loss was C$735 million, or 46 cents a share, compared with net earnings of C$729 million, or 50 cents, in the year-earlier period. The stock was down 1.5 percent.
