United States Small Bone and Joint Orthopedic Devices Procedure Numbers Report 2017

DUBLIN, October 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --

The "US Procedure Numbers for Small Bone and Joint Orthopedic Devices 2017 - MedPro" report has been added to Research and Markets' offering.

Procedures are largely based on device use. Many procedures can use either a trauma or arthroplasty device. As it can be difficult to ascertain what a particular device is used for in any given procedure, it is often only possible to determine unit sales numbers rather than absolute procedure values. Fortunately, arthroplasty orthopedic procedures have a one-to-one relationship between procedure and unit."

Extremity procedures can be broken into those dealing with either joint arthritis or bone fractures. Arthritis can be broken into osteoarthritis, a result of mechanical wear of the joint, or inflammatory arthritis, of which the autoimmune rheumatoid form is the most prevalent. Osteoarthritis is most often associated with the limb that is subject to the wear, known as unilateral, while rheumatoid may manifest itself in both sides of the body, known as bilateral.

Another concern is the possibility of post traumatic arthritis which may require joint operation following a fracture. Revision is also possibility as arthritis may redevelop in the same joint or within neighbouring joints as is possible in the hand and foot.
