US Airways Promotes Chief Financial Officer and Names New Chief Information Officer
US Airways (NYSE: LCC) today announced the promotion of Derek J. Kerr to executive vice president and chief financial officer and named Brad Jensen as senior vice president and chief information officer. Both officer appointments were approved last week by the company’s board of directors.
"We are very pleased to recognize the significant contributions Derek has made to our company and welcome Brad to US Airways,” said US Airways Chairman and CEO Doug Parker. "Derek and Brad are outstanding leaders and will play important roles in shaping the future of our airline.”
Derek J. Kerr: As executive vice president and chief financial officer, Kerr is responsible for all corporate financial functions including Treasury, Accounting, Financial Planning and Analysis, Tax, Risk Management, Strategic Planning and Investor Relations. He was named senior vice president and chief financial officer in 2005 – a position he held with America West Airlines prior to the merger with US Airways. Kerr will continue to report to Parker.
Kerr recently led the process where US Airways raised or secured approximately $1.2 billion in cash and payment deferrals. The company was able to complete this financing in the midst of unprecedented global economic unrest, which reflects the confidence the airline’s investors and business partners have in the people of US Airways.
"Derek’s promotion represents the tremendous respect we have for his leadership and contributions during these volatile economic times,” said Parker. "Derek’s expertise has helped position US Airways as an industry leader ready to take on the challenges of 2009 and remain financially strong.”
Kerr’s aviation experience runs deep. He held a variety of positions with America West Airlines including senior vice president, Financial Planning & Analysis. He was previously a manager, Capital and Long-Range Planning at Northwest Airlines. And at the Northrop Corporation he was a flight test coordinator and lead engineer on a team testing the radar evasion characteristics of the B-2 bomber.
Kerr holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Michigan. He sits on the board of directors of the Phoenix Zoo and received the Arizona CFO of the Year Award in 2007.
Brad Jensen: Jensen brings more than 30 years of extensive application development, planning, distribution, platform and systems knowledge to the airline. He will lead a team of approximately 500 professionals responsible for overseeing all Information Technology (IT)-related acquisitions and services. He will be based at the airline’s corporate headquarters in Tempe and report to US Airways President Scott Kirby.
"We’re thrilled that Brad is joining the US Airways team. His business acumen, technical expertise and aviation industry experience are the perfect addition to our leadership team as we focus on strengthening our airline’s technological footing with the goal of making it easier for our customers and employees to do business with us,” Kirby said.
Jensen joins US Airways from Southlake, Texas-based Sabre Holdings Corporation where he served as senior vice president, Air Services. Jensen oversaw 450 employees and was responsible for the product development of all aspects of Air Service products used by Sabre’s various business units. Prior to joining Sabre, he spent 16 years with American Airlines as managing director, Schedule Planning. Over time, Jensen gained experience in the areas of scheduling, planning and pricing. His initial airline experience began in 1977 with Southern Airways, Inc.
Jensen holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Utah and a Master of Science in Operations Research from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business.
US Airways, along with US Airways Shuttle and US Airways Express, operates more than 3,100 flights per day and serves 200 communities in the U.S., Canada, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America.
