Vacations Ruined: Delta Cancellations Continue

(RTTNews) - Delta Air Lines is striving hard to bring back its operations to normal after a computer failure had forced the airline to cancel more than 2,100 flights over three days.

Delta Air Lines said that flight operations have returned to normal following Monday's outage. Delta, however, canceled about 25 flights due to bad weather in the Midwest on Thursday. The airline said it plans to fly more than 610,000 people on Thursday.

"The airline is back on its feet, moving past this week's disruption and operating normally," said Dave Holtz, Delta's Senior Vice President—Operations and Customer Center. "Running a reliable operation is something we pride ourselves on and frankly, that didn't happen this week. But our teams have worked tirelessly to bring back the dependable airline our customers have known us to be and have come to expect from us."

Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian had taken full responsibility for the computer failure and said it was a one-time event.

"This isn't the quality of service, the reliability that you've come to expect from Delta Air Lines," Bastian said. "We're very sorry, I'm personally very sorry."

The problem began on Monday at Delta's Atlanta headquarters when a power surge shorted the energy supply and several key data streams failed to transfer to the company's backup system.
