Vaisala plans to restructure its business
Vaisala is planning to restructure its business in order to strengthen the capability to implement its strategy and to increase agility. Vaisala continues to invest in its growth businesses and to develop products and services which combine customers' business expertise and Vaisala's technology leadership. The goal of the planned restructuring is to strengthen customer focus across all functions and to ensure operational efficiency through simplification.
Weather and Controlled Environment Business Areas face different market challenges and they operate with different business models. Weather Business Area is executing its renewable energy strategy and building new business around information services. In order to accelerate the implementation of this strategy Weather Business Area is planning to restructure its business under three business units:
-
Meteorology, serving meteorological and defense customer groups
-
Transportation, serving airports, roads, rail and maritime customer groups
-
Energy, serving customers from renewable energy sector
Strategy implementation in Controlled Environment Business Area includes developing sales channel for life science and industrial customers, driving regional expansion and enhancing offering in order to create value for customers' operations. In order to accelerate the implementation of this strategy Controlled Environment Business Area is planning to restructure its business under three regions:
- Americas
- EMEA
- APAC
These regions are fully aligned with Vaisala's current reporting structure: Americas (North and South America), EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), and APAC (Asia Pacific including Japan and Australia).
In order to foster the business areas to operate with different business models the current Service function is planned to be integrated into Weather and Controlled Environment Business Areas. In the proposed structure Information Services and Field Services would be part of Weather Business Area whereas Calibration and Repair Services would be part of Controlled Environment Business Area. Operations and support units including marketing are planned to continue as group functions.
The proposed new organization is planned to be effective on April 1, 2015.
During the restructuring Vaisala will adhere to the local legislation and practices in each country. In Finland, Vaisala will initiate co-operation negotiations on February 2, 2015. The planned reorganization is expected to lead to a reduction in personnel. The reduction of employees is estimated to total 60 full-time equivalents out of which about 25 are estimated to be in Finland.
Vaisala will publish 2014 financial statements on February 12, 2015.
