Volkswagen Of America December Sales Down 23% - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Volkswagen Of America Inc. (VKW.L, VLKAF.PK, VOW.BE) Friday said sales for the month of December decreased to 34,015 units from 44,005 units in the same period last year.

Sales were mostly affected by the company's Golf/GTI models which had sales of 1,852 units, down 35 percent from 2,854 units last year. Chattanooga-built Passat sold 9,254 units in December, down 36 percent from 14,462 units last year.

Sales of Jetta Sedan improved to 13,719 units from 13,102 units last year, while Beetle Coupe sales plunged to 1,856 units from 2,666 units last year.

Beetle and Beetle Convertible achieved 2,819 units, compared to 3,182 units last year.

"We look forward to 2014, with the introduction of the new Golf family, continued increased awareness and enthusiasm for the brand's core models and the strength of our TDI offerings, we are well positioned for our next phase of growth to come over the next few years, " said Mark McNabb, COO.
