Wall Street Poised To Open Broadly Lower
(RTTNews) - Investors might continue to analyze Nvidia's earnings and await other quarterly results scheduled on Thursday. The Weekly Jobless Claims and Pending Home Sales might get special attention. The second quarter GDP will be of interest to investors on the day.
Early signs from the U.S. Futures Index suggest that Wall Street might open broadly lower.
As of 8.15 am ET, the Dow futures were up 35.00 points, the S&P 500 futures were declining 2.50 points and the Nasdaq 100 futures were sliding 32.00 points.
The U.S. major averages recorded modest gains on Wednesday. The Dow rose 147.16 points or 0.3 percent to 45,565.23, the Nasdaq edged up 45.87 points or 0.2 percent at 21,590.14 and the S&P 500 crept up 15.46 points or 0.2 percent to 6,481.40.
On the economic front, the Gross Domestic Product or GDP for the second quarter will be issued at 8.30 am ET. The consensus is for an increase of 3.1 percent, while it was up 3.0 percent in the prior quarter.
The Jobless Claims for the week will be released at 8.30 am ET. The consensus is for an increase of 230K, while it was up 235K in the prior week.
The Corporate Profit for the second quarter will be published at 8.30 am ET. In the prior quarter, the profits were up 8.7 percent.
National Association of Realtors' Pending Home Sales Index for July will be revealed at 10.00 am ET. The consensus is up 0.2 percent, while it was down 0.8 percent in the prior month.
The Energy Information Administration or EIA's Natural Gas Report for the week is scheduled at 10.30 am ET. In the prior week, the gas stock was up 13 bcf.
The kansas City Fed Manufacturing Index for August will be published at 11.00 am ET.
Seven-year Treasury Note auction will be held at 1.00 pm ET.
The Fed Balance Sheet for the week is expected at 4.30 pm ET. In the prior week, the Level was at $6.618 trillion.
Asian stocks ended mostly higher on Thursday. Chinese markets rallied. The benchmark Shanghai Composite index climbed 1.14 percent to 3,843.60. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index dropped 0.81 percent to 24.998.82.
Japanese markets advanced. The Nikkei average recovered from losses to close 0.73 percent higher at 42,828.79 while the broader Topix index ended up 0.65 percent at 3,089.78.
Australian markets eked out modest gains. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.22 percent to 8,980 while the broader All Ordinaries index settled 0.11 percent higher at 9,241.10.
European shares are trading mostly down. CAC 40 of France is adding 26.85 points or 0.35 percent. DAX of Germany is down 0.03 points or 0.00 percent. FTSE 100 of England is declining 27.44 points or 0.30 percent. The Swiss Market Index is gaining 4.55 points or 0.04 percent.
Euro Stoxx 50 that provides a Blue-chip representation of supersector leaders in the Eurozone, is up 0.085 percent.
