Weight Watchers To Change Name To WW; Shifts Focus To Overall Wellness
(RTTNews) - Weight Watchers International, Inc. (WTW) said Monday that it will change its name to WW to reflect the shift in its focus from weight loss to overall health and well-being. The company also announced the launch of several new services and partnerships.
The company said that globally, it will use a new tagline, "Wellness that Works", to reflect the company's heritage as well as its overall approach to health and well-being.
Starting in January 2011, every product sold directly to consumers by WW globally will have no artificial sweeteners, flavors, colors and preservatives, WW said.
The company said that its WW app, used by WW members around the world, will be updated on October 4 to reflect the new brand identity.
WW also announced the launch of "WellnessWins," a program that rewards members for small, everyday behaviors that are proven to lead to healthier habits.
In addition, WW has formed a partnership with Headspace, a healthcare company that specializes in meditation, to help develop customized content for WW members.
WW will revise its FitPoints system to encourage activity choices, based on what will have the greatest impact on an individual's health and wellness.
WW will also launch "Connect Groups," to help foster meaningful relationships between members of WW's community by sharing tips based on specific interest areas. Connect Groups will be available globally by December.
Further, WW is launching a beta version of voice integration with Amazon Alexa and the Google Assistant. The company is planning a U.S. launch for late fall and a global expansion thereafter.
"From the moment I chose to invest in the company and join the Board, I have believed that the role WW can play in people's lives goes far beyond a number on the scale. As Weight Watchers becomes WW, I believe we will continue to inspire people not only to eat well, but to move more, connect with others and continue to experience the joys of a healthy life," said media mogul Oprah Winfrey.
Winfrey is a member of the company's board and also holds more than 8 percent stake in the company.
