WeRide, Grab Launch Singapore's First Autonomous Public Ride Service In Punggol

(RTTNews) - WeRide Inc. (WRD, 0800.HK), an autonomous driving technology company and Grab Holdings Ltd. (GRAB, GRABW), a Singapore-based technology company, on Tuesday announced the launch of Singapore's first autonomous public ride-hailing service, Ai.R or Autonomously Intelligent Ride, in the Punggol district.

The service is operated by Grab, features autonomous vehicles developed by WeRide, including the GXR and Robobus models.

The launch follows a trial phase since January 2026, during which more than 1,000 riders used the service and the fleet completed over 30,000 km of autonomous driving.

The Ai.R service currently operates on weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., offering multiple routes connecting residential areas to key transport points.

The rides will be free until commercial operations begin in mid-2026.

The companies said the initiative also supports workforce transition, with driver-partners trained for new roles such as Safety Operators and Remote Operators to support autonomous fleet operations.

The launch marks a step toward broader deployment of autonomous mobility solutions in Southeast Asia, supported by collaboration with local authorities.

WeRide is currently trading 5.14% higher at HK$ 21.260 on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

On Monday, Grab Holdings closed trading 3.68% higher at $3.6600 on the Nasdaq. In the overnight trading, the stock traded 0.55% higher at $3.6800 on the Nasdaq.
