Zander Group Retail Customers Check Out with Aruba Wi-Fi Solutions

Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARUN), a global leader in distributed enterprise network solutions, today announced that its wireless solutions are being deployed in the corporate offices, warehouses and retail stores of Zander Group, one of Germany’s leading wholesale suppliers of electrical, heating and sanitation products. The new wireless networks enable in-store customers to checkout using self-service, hand-held barcode readers, allows employees to access Zander’s business applications, and offers visitors access to the Internet. The network was provided by authorized Aruba partner, TWINSEC GmbH.

"Self-scanning and check-out is the key to improving customer experience in a very competitive retail market,” said Michael Sieben, CEO of TWINSEC. "Zander Group’s stores and facilities are powered by business-critical office, stock management, and pricing applications that are accessed via the wireless network, so up-time is of paramount importance. Aruba’s Adaptive Radio Management technology automatically adjusts the network to accommodate changing environmental, radio interference, and usage conditions. This results in an easily deployed network that is highly stable and consistently reliable. Customers and employees appreciate the convenience of always-on wireless, while Zander Group’s internal IT service provider appreciates that the system effectively manages itself.”

Adaptive Radio Management (ARM) technology lowers deployment and maintenance costs by automating site surveys and using infrastructure-based controls to optimize the performance of Wi-Fi clients in real-time. Aruba mobility controllers located at each site ensure full operation, including the ability to make configuration changes, in the event of a WAN outage. Redundant Aruba Mobility Controllers in the data center provide a centralized point from which the networks in all fifty stores, offices, and warehouses can be managed.

Retailers are increasingly using self-service tools to expedite stock location and speed checkout, and wireless LANs can streamline these operations and enhance users’ experiences. However, convenience cannot come at the expense of network security, and the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard (DSS) Version 1.2 mandates that merchants and service providers that store, process and transmit cardholder data must meet minimum wireless network security standards. Firewalls, encryption, authentication, and wireless intrusion detection are mandated for use with all wireless LANs in the latest PCI standard.

"Aruba’s integrated security and wireless/wired access solutions meet or exceed the PCI DSS v1.2 wireless LAN-specific security requirements,” explained Frank Vossmoeller, sales manager at Aruba Networks. "This enables our customers to cost-effectively implement PCI security controls without compromising the performance of either business applications or the authorized devices using the network.”

A white paper, Security Is In The Air, available from Aruba’s Web site describes how merchants can comply with the PCI DSS Version 1.2 standard.
