Tokyo, April 15, 2015 -- On 14 April, the Fukui district court ruled against Kansai Electric Power Company, Incorporated's (A3 negative) plans to restart its Takahama 3 and 4 nuclear power plants. The ruling is credit negative because the lack of nuclear power, which is a lower-cost source of energy than thermal energy, will continue to pressure Kansai's profitability, all else equal. Kansai is taking steps to restore its profitability by applying for material tariff increases. We expect Kansai to be able to increase its tariffs in the coming months, and as a result, the company's ratings and outlook are not impacted at this time.
