Power Integrations Enables Manufacturers to Earn the ENERGY STAR Label
Power Integrations Enables Manufacturers to Earn the ENERGY STAR Label on External Power Supplies EcoSmart(R) Integrated Circuits Cost-Effectively Replace "Energy Vampires"; Company to Demonstrate Energy-Saving Technology on January 8 at CES in Las Vegas
Power Integrations, Inc. (Nasdaq:POWI), the leading supplier of high-voltage analog integrated circuits used in power conversion, today announced that its EcoSmart technology enables manufacturers to earn the Energy Star label for their external power supplies. An expansion of the Energy Star program announced this week by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency addresses external power supplies, the adapters that power such products as cell phones, MP3 players, digital cameras, PDAs and many other household and office devices.
The new Energy Star standards, effective immediately, are a continuation of ongoing global efforts to reduce energy waste from inefficient, low-tech external power supplies known as "energy vampires." In December 2004, the California Energy Commission (CEC) introduced mandatory efficiency standards for external power supplies, effective July 2006. Also, on January 1, 2005, new efficiency standards for external power supplies went into effect as part of the European Commission Code of Conduct. Details on each of these programs can be found in the Power Integrations Green Room at www.powerint.com/greenroom.
Power Integrations will demonstrate how it can help manufacturers meet the new standards this weekend at a special media event at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The event, titled "Green Gadgets," will highlight Energy Star's external power supply effort and a variety of products designed to help manufacturers earn the Energy Star label. Power Integrations will show that power supplies incorporating its EcoSmart integrated circuits can reduce no-load energy waste by as much as 90 percent compared to energy vampires. The event, which is open to the media, is scheduled for 10:30-11:30 a.m. on January 8 in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, room N254.
"By using Power Integrations ICs in place of older technologies, manufacturers can produce power supplies that are both smaller and more energy-efficient," said Balu Balakrishnan, president and CEO of Power Integrations. "The Energy Star label allows consumers to select products that are not only energy-efficient, but also have the convenience of reduced size and weight.
"Our cost-effective power supply solutions have already been adopted by manufacturers around the world to meet the requirements of energy-efficiency programs such as the European Commission Code of Conduct, the U.S. One-Watt Executive Order, the Japanese Top Runner program, and many other regulations and standards," added Balakrishnan.
Power Integrations offers a range of cost-effective solutions to help manufacturers meet the new Energy Star standards. The company's integrated circuits with EcoSmart technology enable the design and manufacture of power supplies that consume only a fraction of the electricity wasted by linear transformers and many discrete designs. Power Integrations ICs are supported by comprehensive design tools including application notes, data sheets, reference design kits (DAKs) and the company's power supply design software, PI Expert(TM). Copy-ready reference designs for compliance with the Energy Star and CEC standards can be found in the Power Integrations Green Room at www.powerint.com/greenroom.
