ARGENTINA: We Are Not Going To Allow A Blocked Country, Minister Says
(RTTNews) - Argentina's Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich said that the national government will not allow truck drivers to block the country's routes while threatening with a massive strike if their demands are not met.
On the eve, Argentinean truck drivers called a national strike for the next week in rejection to a 15% wage increase proposal offered by business transport chambers. The leader of the National Federation of Truckers, Hugo Moyano, announced that the drivers would stop on June 14 if their 27% wage increased demand is missed.
"If they try to block, of course, we will not allow in any way that Argentina is blocked, that people suffer, that someone in a hospital can not have an input, or that it generates a serious situation because a union comes up," the minister said in an interview with a local radio station.
The truck drivers move can be added to a possible general strike scheduled for the second half of the month called by the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) in rejection of the agreement that the Mauricio Macri administration is expected to sign with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the presidential veto to a legislation that limited the increases in public services rates and the ceiling of 15% for wage increases.
